Kuwait plans to launch an independent television and radio organisation which would be free from Kuwaiti government control or influence and would compete globally, according to Sheikh Salman Sabah Salem Al Humoud Al Sabah, Kuwait’s Minister of Information.

“We always seek the best and the world is heading towards restructuring (media) sectors to be bodies that enjoy more capabilities and administrative and technical freedom away from government and official bureaucracy that cripples in certain points specialised technical work. Our goal is to have a TV that is leading and pioneering in form and content,” said Al Sabah.

This comes at a time when the country has witnessed a record locally-based TV stations being of shut down for criticising the government.
