Famous Latino Band Performs In KCK

KANSAS CITY, Kan. — A famous Latino band that has won 10 Grammys and sold millions of albums worldwide made a stop in Kansas City recently.Los Tigres del Norte — the Tigers from the North — performed to a sold-out crowd at the Bermudas hall in Kansas City, Kan.Before the group hit the state, the famous Mexican band went to Oak Park Mall to meet hundreds of their screaming fans.Many of the shoppers at the mall were wondering what was going on when the group arrived. Most of them had never heard of Los Tigres. But in the Spanish-speaking community, they are legends, selling 35 million albums.

“My father listened to them in my country, Guatemala,” said Lucia. “They make me feel in my country and I love them.”The band, made up of brothers and one cousin, has been around since the 1960s. Many people in the area remember their parents listening to them when they were growing up.”It’s a blessing to play, to sing to young kids, parents, fans and pass it on to kids,” said Hernan Hernandez.

“That’s beautiful, you know.”"We’ve been blessed to be in this country and sing for all the people,” said Jorge Hernandez.As many as 1,000 people packed the mall and extra security had to be brought in for crowd control. Everyone was there to get a glimpse of the legendary band that has been referred to as being the voice of the people.”I think it feels good,” said Edwardo Hernandez.

“It’s nice for people to say we are the voice of them. I’m proud. That’s what we work for, you know.”What makes this band stand out above others is how they have been able to entertain families from one generation to the next.Verizon brought Los Tigres del Norte to Kansas City to promote a special sweepstakes. Thirty-five families from the area will be able to attend an all-expense paid concert in Houston. The band will perform there for a special World Cup Soccer watch party between Mexico and South Africa.
